Nice!

Well, I'd like to start off by saying NICE!!! over 500 members on our facebook group!!! You guys ROCK!

Well, we are slowly approaching the rally and I am seeing that LOTS of supporters are talking on facebook and even fliers are being handed out at school. Way to go guys! A petition was started at the high school, and as of Monday, had almost 300 signatures!

Now, for those of you attending the board meeting, I would like to remind you of some things, that I'm SURE you already know!

-This is actually a BUDGET meeting, so it is the people in charge of the budget from the board.

-Please be courteous to everyone, we are asking them to help us, and coming across harshly is not helping.

-Please understand that there is the meetig, and there is a RALLY, they are different. No signs or instruments can go INTO the meeting, as of respect for the members.

You guys are getting the wordout really well, me and Kaila never knew it would do this good! The final budget will be out around June 30th, so we have until then to change the board's mind.

Something Mr. Farris stated, COME WITH OTHER SUGGESTIONS!!! It's Molalla, and they don't have an unlimeted supply of money, so they WILL need to cut some things, so instead of "keep band" maybe say "we should keep bandbecause it helps students, maybe we should cut out ________", that would be much more helpful to them, I'm sure.

Also, here are a list of some of the current electives (aside from bandand choir) offered in place of these programs, and a quick description.

Dreamworks vs. Pixar - Students watch movies andcompare the two.

Card games/ board games - These TWO classes teach you how to play games.

Basketball - This is pretty self explanitory...

Yoga - They do YOGA.

Debate and Mock Trial - You debate and have fake court trials.

Protest

On May 27, 2010 there will be a protest held at the Molalla River School district office. There is said to be news reporters there. There will be kids outside singing from choir and playing their band instruments. We will be saying how important band and choir have been to us and how it will effect us when it is gone.

The school board doesn't get how many people they are affecting. They need to realize they are affecting the whole entire school district. Elementary schoolers will now never be able to play in a middle school band or sing in a middle school choir. Middle schoolers will not be able to play in a band or sing in a choir. The High school band will slowly die because there won't be experienced musicians joining. The band won't be able to compete in competitions, have a jazz band, or be able to play at the school basketball and football games. The high school choir has done the best they have ever done this year. Now the board wants to cut the where these singers are coming from. The middle school arts program.

Join facebook groups, watch youtube videos, and if you are reading this blog, good for you!!! Now it is up to you! Spread the word! Join us at the protest! Only you can Save the MRMS band and choir programs!!!

Not Cool, Dude.

So last week, in band, we were all sitting in our chairs talking with our friends and having a good time, when Mr. Farris went and sat in his chair in the front of the room and handed us the bad news, no more middle school band or choir starting next year.

So we're all like "WHAT!?" and everyone starts talking again. We have a ton of questions, and this is all due to BUDGET CUTS!?

So pretty much they don't want to mess up the "important" classes so they're cutting out the ones they don't think NEED to be there. UM, HELLO!? Band lets you be apart of something, why are they cuttting it? You're pretty much learning a new language, then you read it, interpret it, and move your fingers while adjusting volume and pitch. But I guess card games or yoga class are better to them?

So the band is working hard to get things back to normal, we have a facebook page and now this blog, and several petitions circulating, as well as this wonderful video by Kaila!

Please help us out guys! It'll be great!
